Guishan Island, also known as Turtle Island due to its distinctive turtle-like shape, is situated about 10 kilometers off the coast of Yilan County, Taiwan. This small volcanic island is Taiwan’s only active volcanic island and is designated as a Wildlife Conservation Area to protect its unique marine and terrestrial ecosystems. The island’s landscape features volcanic cones, hot springs, caves, and rocky shorelines, creating habitats for numerous rare species including migratory birds and endangered marine mammals.
